When things don't fit.

Let’s just say… the ring fit.

But nothing else did.

June 13, 2014.

I was at a wedding without my fiancé.

I had picked up the engagement ring from the jeweler before flying back to Cincinnati—and was wearing it like I’d just been handed the final rose on The Bachelorette.

Nobody knew that behind the “Paris proposal” and the champagne smiles… something felt off.

Not dramatic. Not catastrophic. Just off.

A week later, two martinis deep with my high school best friends:

“So… how was Paris?”

Cue the waterworks.

I didn’t even know what was wrong—I just knew something wasn’t right.

That moment, blurry and beautiful and raw, became a turning point—one of many.

It’s the one I write about in Chapter 3 of Chasing the Carat: Shiny Objects (find in the MY STORY tab).

If you’ve ever kept smiling while something inside you whispered, “This isn’t it…”

You’re not broken.

You’re not dramatic.

You’re just waking up.

And that moment? It’s worth listening to.
